This project is interested in the realized and unrealized potential of Black Americans who have been disproportionally affected by mass incarceration. Many Black Americans fall victim to the criminal justice system, never being able to restart their life post incarceration. These young men and women return to society seeking to transform their lives for the better however many are unable to gain employment, not only because of there record but because while in the system they were unable to develop their unrealized potential. In our installation we illuminate these issues, and create a visual dialogue framed around lost potential vs realized potential. These dialectical conversations are signified by the illuminated and unilluminated halos. These halos are supported by black bars inferring that the criminal justice system supports the suppression of young black potential.
